NEW YORK (February 3, 2017) — According to new research conducted by TopResume, simply getting a paycheck doesn't buy happiness. In honor of Valentine's Day, TopResume asked more than 500 career-driven professionals, “What relationship do you have with your job?” and today announced the results of its nationwide survey to uncover how they describe their availability. TopResume — which writes and analyzes more resumes and LinkedIn profiles than any other service through their network of experienced writers — confirmed varying degrees of job satisfaction.
The survey presented professionals with four options about their commitment to their current job. Below are the results:
-
73% are in an “Open Relationship,” meaning, they're employed, but open to hearing about new opportunities.
-
13% are in a “Committed Relationship,” meaning, they love their job and are not looking for other opportunities.
-
11% say “It's Complicated,” meaning, they don't love their job, but they're not sure if it's time to leave it.
-
3% are “Not Specified,” meaning, they're unsure of their feelings toward their current job.
“The Valentine's Day survey reveals that nearly three out of four working professionals are in an 'open relationship' with their job, and that's a good thing,” said Amanda Augustine, career advice expert for TopResume. “The most successful professionals are mindful of their long-term career plans and are always open to exploring new job opportunities. Keeping your resume and LinkedIn profile current, as well as actively engaging with your professional networks, will prepare you for the unexpected.”
To illustrate the survey results, Augustine created an infographic to help professionals navigate their career path, based on how they feel about their current job.
